What does it cost?: Replacing your vehicle’s windshield

For my first ever Money Monday post, I thought I’d start by covering an adulting task that can seem pretty daunting to those of us urbanites with zero mechanical know-how. Anytime something goes seriously wrong with my vehicle, I go from 0 to 10 on the stress level, so you can imagine that something like a windshield gets put off ad infinitum.

Well, this past October the cracks kept adding up from frequent mountain excursions, so I decided to bite the bullet and organize getting a new windshield. Me and SO were positive that this was going to be about $500 on our Ford Escape.

Well, my fellow car noobs, fear not!

I was able to game this about as far down theΒ online shopping pipeline as you can get with a windshield install.

I used Glassmaster’s here in Edmonton because they had solid reviews on Yelp, were close to my ‘hood, and had an online booking form (many posts to come on how I maximize efficiency through online bookings and online shopping).

The online quote came in at:

$194.95
installed
+ gst/shop supplies.

And they were able to get me in the next day.

I booked the installation and – can you believe it – the total was exactly what they had quoted me!

Easy peasy. Now go get your cracked windshield a makeover!

Tell me in the comments – what is your vehicle or adulting issue you keep putting off?
